The Harpeth River is a part of the Narrows of the Harpeth State Park located approximately 30 minutes west of Nashville on US Highway 70. When we began renting canoes on the Harpeth, it was just us, a few canoes, and the beautiful Harpeth River. As time has progressed, we have seen growth in the area, visitors from near and far, and our little family treasure grow into a family business.

Danny Spear began Tip-A-Canoe in 1972 with just a few canoes and a dream. Over the years, Danny taught his daughter and son his vision for what Tip-A-Canoe would become. Sadly, Danny passed in November of 2020, but his children and his wife have dedicated themselves to keeping Danny's dream alive. His granddaughter is even making plans to take over the business once she is old enough.

The Harpeth River can and has taught us a lot about life. If you get stuck, scoot. If you tip over, get up, catch your gear and get back in the boat. Keep going. It is possible to make it to the bridge without a paddle. It is not safe to be outside in a river in a boat in a thunderstorm. Wear your life jacket even if you can swim. Never stand up in a boat. The farm animals are friendly as long as you don't splash them. Do not grab a branch if you float under a tree. All of these life lessons and more can be taught from the Harpeth River, but the main lesson is that you deserve some time in nature disconnected from real life. The Harpeth River can soothe your soul.

Satisfied Customers

"My dad started taking me canoeing as a kid. When I was old enough, I got a summer job at Tip-A-Canoe. Now that I am a Dad, I take my kids canoeing every summer. Canoeing the Harpeth River with Tip-A-Canoe is a family tradition."

Andy

We moved here from out of state a few years ago. Our realtor suggested canoeing with Tip-A-Canoe. We had never been in a canoe and now we cannot imagine life without it.

Sami

We have always felt safe on the Harpeth River when kayaking with Tip-A-Canoe. They give us life jackets, give excellent directions. and are available if we need them during the trip. One time we lost a paddle and they had another customer bring us a replacement! They are above and beyond!!
